Free Crochet Star Pattern
Written by Freddy Goat Design Team
Happy Holidays! We want to give you a free crochet star pattern!
The holidays are approching fast and you don’t even know how to ninja star your family so they don’t come over to spend them with you?!? Freddy Goat has a solution for you! Throw these cute star amigurumis at them. They will be so confused! (Are they giving me a gift or throwing things at me to get me to leave?) Watch them flounder under the weight of their perplexity then decide to go home and take a nap instead of argue politics over the dinner table. Your passive aggression was never this cute (or effective) before! (Therapy fees not included with this pattern.)
Before we get started, this is what you need:
- 2.75mm(US C-2) crochet hook
- Aran or worsted weight yarn:
• Color A (primary body color)
• Scrap yarn for face details - Tapestry needle
- Stuffing
- Snap eyes
5-rnd gauge circle = 1.75”/4.5cm Gauge isn’t terribly important in amigurumi, so it is okay to use a slightly larger hook if that is all you have. However, you don’t want to see stuffing through the stitches, so don’t get too big.
- Magic ring (MR)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Increase (inc)
- Invisible decrease (invdec)
Download here our free Terms and Techniques glossary for more information.
Or check out Crochet 101 for tips on how to do these and other stitches!

free crochet star pattern instructions:
ARMS
• Make 5
• Worked in the round.
• At the end of the 5th star, don’t break the yarn.
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6. [6sts]
Rnd 2: *Inc, sc* x 3. [9 sts]
Rnd 3: *Sc, inc, sc* x 3. [12 sts]
Rnd 4: *Sc 3, inc* x 3. [15 sts]
Rnd 5: *Sc 2, inc, sc 2* x 3. [18 sts]
Rnd 6: *Inc, sc 5* x 3. [21 sts]
Rnd 7: *Sc 3, inc, sc 3* x 3. [24 sts]
Rnd 8: *Sc 7, inc* x 3. [27 sts]
Rnd 9: *Sc 4, inc, sc 4* x 3. [30 sts]
For the first four arms, break the yarn, make a sl st into the next st, then invisible join and weave in the tail. Don’t break the yarn after the fifth arm, as you will begin crocheting them together in the next step.
ASSEMBLY
• Worked in the round.
• You will begin joining the arms of the star. Flatten each arm and work only into one side of the crochets (15 on each arm).
• Join the first arm with an sc but join all subsequent arms by making an invdec in the final sc of the arm you just worked across and the first sc of the arm you are about to join.
• If you want to add a face, use snap eyes and scrap yarn to give your star an expression.
Rnd 1:[ Join arm 1] sc 14, invdec [between arm 1 and 2], sc 13, invdec [between arm 2 and 3], sc 13, invdec [between arm 3 and 4], sc 13, invdec [between arm 4 and 5], sc 13, invdec. [70 sts]
Rnd 2: *Sc 5, invdec* x 10. [60 sts]
Rnd 3: *Sc 10, invdec* x 5. [55 sts]
Rnd 4: *Sc 4, invdec, sc 3, invdec* x 5. [45 sts]
Rnd 5: *Sc 7, invdec* x 5. [40 sts]
Rnd 6: *Sc 2, invdec* x 10. [30 sts]
Rnd 7: *Sc 4, invdec* x 5. [25 sts]
Rnd 8: *Sc, invdec, invdec* x 5. [15 sts]
Rnd 9: *Sc, invdec* x 5. [10 sts]
Break the yarn, thread the tail through the front loops of the remaining 10 sts and draw closed.
Flip the star over, join with a slip stitch to the first stitch of one arm and repeat Rnds 1-9, stuffing as you go.
