Free Crochet Wax Lips Pattern and #Hooktober |The black magic of being overly ambitious | Part-2 |
Remember our challenge to rain creativity down on you this month?!? That’s right, we created our own, overly ambitious instagram challenge for the month of #HOOKTOBER: #TexasChainStitchMassacre. Well, we are still here grinding away at spooky season. But, in all honesty, we’re just barely keeping up the energy to make it magical every day #128517; Despite the toll it’s taking, it has been a lot of fun.
And, as a part of the challenge, we have come up with some amazing patterns to share with y’all! Last year we made Witch Fingers to celebrate the season, and we wanted to keep up the tradition of making iconic Halloween goodies from our youth. Here’s the latest addition: our free crochet wax lips pattern. In brainstorming our funnest Halloween memories we realized this “candy” really left a mark on us. Freddy was totally baffled by it. (Do you eat it? Why is it flavored if you aren’t supposed to eat it? But also, grooooosssssssss!) Goat apparently loved chewing on it nonstop. It didn’t matter that it tasted like… well, wax. (Of course, she is a goat, so she chews on the most random stuff. Hopefully, the popsicle stick we put in there will make it…)
Enjoy making your own wax lips and feel free to get in touch with any questions about the pattern. Also, please tag us on insta if you social (@freddy_goat_crochet and #texaschainstitchmassacre). We would love to see your makes!
Before we get started, this is what you need to make your free Halloween – ie:
- 1.75mm (steel size No. 0) hook
- Schachenmayr Catania or similar weight yarn in colors:
- Color A: For lips (Kirsche 00424)
- Color B: For teeth (Weiß 00106)
- Tapestry needle
- stuffing
- Popsicle stick
5-rnd gauge circle with 1.75mm hook = 1 3/16″/3.1cm
If you work with a different gauge yarn, be sure to choose a hook size that is appropriate and doesn’t allow stuffing to show through the stitches.
- Single crochet (sc)
- Invisible dec (invdec)
- Increase (inc)

Assembly and Details
Arrange the lips so that there is one yarn tail at either side of the mouth, then use the tails to sew the corners of the lips together. There is no need to sew the center of the lips.
Center the Teeth over the lips with the ch-7 towards the top. Pin the teeth in place and use the yarn tails t stitch them to the lips.
Place a fang at either side of the teeth, then pin and sew them in place.
Turn the lips over. Score then break a piece of popsicle stick or tongue depressor about 1.5” long. If needed, you can sand the rough end. Dab glue on the rough end and insert that end between the lips from the back. Make sure it doesn’t protrude to the front. Let this dry completely before wearing your fangtastic new lips.

What does bb stand for in the teeth instructions
Great question! It is short for “back bumps” and is a shorthand we use to indicate that you should make the sc into the bumps on the back of the chain.
We need to add that to the stitches and techniques list. Thanks so much for catching that omission! Hope you enjoy your wax lips!
