Before we get started, this is what you need…
Supplies/Materials
- The same size hook you used to make the amigurumi this collar is for.
- The same weight yarn you used to make the amigurumi!
- Tapestry needle.
If yarn be the food of love, crochet on…
For example...
The amigurumi in this post were designed in Schachenmayr Catania and Yarn and Color Must-Have (two DELICIOUS sportweight/4-ply yarns), so we made the collar in the same yarns.
Full disclosure: The links above are affiliate links. If you choose to purchase yarn with it, we will get a small commission — which we would very much appreciate, too!
Gauge
Your gauge should match the gauge of the amigurumi you are making this collar for.

Crochet Elizabethan Collar Pattern
Note: This pattern is written to fit most of our amigurumi patterns, which have a neck circumference of 12 sts. If you are making this collar for another neck size, count the number of sts and multiply it by 6, then add 2 chs.
Step 1 — Make a big long chain!
Row 1: Ch 74.

Step 2 — Double Crochet Across the Foundation Chain
Row 2: Beginning in the 3rd ch from the hook, dc across the ch. [72 sts OR 6 times the number of sts in the neck of your amigurumi]
Fasten off and leave the tails.
If you want to make a collar for a very large amigurumi, you may want to repeat Row 2. Simply turn the work, ch 2, and dc in each st across.
Note: We like to work into the bumps on the back of the foundation chain (work in BB) because it results in tidy sts on both sides of the work. For example, in the Step 2 pic, you’ll notice that both sides of the work look like the top of the stitch! However, it isn’t necessary to work in BB for this pattern, so do what you prefer!.

Once more into the breach!
All the crochet is done. Now it’s on to sewing…
Step 3 — Get ready to gather!
Put the yarn tail on a tapestry needle and weave it in and out of every 3rd st of Row 2.
Note: If you aren’t familiar with the term “gathering” from sewing, it is one way to make folds in fabric and is often used in shaping clothes (think of the waistline of a skirt).

Step 4 — Get to gatherin’
Pull the yarn tail to finish gathering the collar, then wrap it around the neck of your ami, adjust the gathers and tie the yarn tails together.
If you want the collar to be permanent, knot then weave in the tails.

You did it!!!
